The police are expecting to make arrests soon. They’re also trying to douse rumors that the killing could have been World Cup-related, albeit in terms that will do absolutely nothing to quell the rumors. From Captain Leonard Hlathi of the Mpumalanga police:
We don’t talk about politics. The police are investigating only murder, that’s it.
So…is motive part of a murder investigation, Captain? Apparently not, as Hlathi also declared any speculation that Mohlala’s shooting might have been a political reprisal “totally out of order.” I guess I’ve been watching too many movies, then, because to me that sounds almost like a cover-up.
