The Map of the Road of the Future
by Brian Phillips · May 22, 2010
The day of the Champions League final is, as they say, finally upon us, which means it’s time for a couple of announcements in the way-of-the-future vein. Like, what are we going to do about it, and what to expect for this little festival of truces they’ve got set up in South Africa this summer.
Fortunately, we’ve got the goods ready to be brought, and on multiple frontiers of new media. As you might have heard, I’m going to be doing Champions League + World Cup coverage for Yahoo! (when they’re paying you, you have to use the exclamation point, like how you could get fired for leaving the “the” off “Smashing Pumpkins” if you worked at Virgin in the ’90s) and Dirty Tackle, beginning today. My first post, on the crucial and overlooked question of whether Inter are allowed to leave their hotel today, already exists. There are also a couple of new Slate pieces in the works. And of course, the deepest and most frightening truths will continue to appear on this site.
B.A.F.C. will carry on as usual, though probably at a reduced frequency during the World Cup. Oh, and if you’ve found your way here from one of those other sites, and you’re like, “Why is the entire first screen taken up by a giant sideways picture of a 1920s French silent comedy star with no explanation except a string of numbers printed across one of his eyes,” welcome! No, it won’t ever make sense.
