The Run of Play is a blog about
the wonder and terror of soccer.
We left the window open during a match in October 2007 and a strange wind blew into the room.
Now we walk the forgotten byways of football with a lonely tread, searching for the beautiful, the bewildering, the haunting, and the absurd.
Lots of people sayin’ poor defending – no doubt – but c’mon, he still had to do it, didn’t he?
Beautiful football, beautiful skills. One of the key reasons they are my team even without trophies (it’s not like I’d get to set them on my mantle anyway).
Sweet lord. Combine that with Chelsea’s one-touch team goal in the 90th, and Nino’s strike and we’ve had a pretty decent day of football.
I need to get over my “no Chelsea” players on my Fantasy squad…
I like how the only caption in your post is “Fabregas”. It’s enough, simply says it all. Love this little guy.
A fantastic day of football watchery
Cesc is so brilliant.
Chances that Arsenal will keep him away from Barcelona next summer? Slim I think
My favorite footballer on the planet for the past couple of years.
The goal is typical of his game – lovely skill, remorseless industry, and a comprehensive vision of the possibilities inherent in the next 10 seconds of play. I’m so glad he’s got another 10-15 years, I could just poop myself.
Melanie, feel free to traffic in those ideas in the Daily Mail comments section. Let’s all work together to keep the Run of Play free of such pointless prattle!
Maybe most impressive is the celebration-so much variety, so much grace, so much passion. Shirt over the face, two arms pumping, 10 yard knee slide, seamless transition to a hulking gait towards the crowd, fist pump, mobbed by teammates. I’m about a tenth joking when I say that celebration encapsulated why I love football. But yeah, nice goal too.
