A Russian oligarch who’s even richer than Roman Abramovich has signed a letter of intent to buy the New Jersey Nets. At the same time, academics are concocting plans to introduce promotion and relegation to American sports. I’m not saying this is a thing, but given Kobe’s love of Barcelona and David Beckham’s unclassifiable homosocial bond with Kevin Garnett, I don’t think anyone will be too shocked if Steve Nash scores a free throw with his head next season.

I love the promotion/relegation side of football. I suppose the minors system in baseball is the closest thing we have to it, but only for individuals.
It would crack me up to see my Northside Cubs “go down.”
No way the cubs would go down, they haven’t been last in the NL for the last 7-8 years and are one of the top spenders in the majors.
Maybe the cubs of 15-20 years ago…..but not this version. They’re one of the few clubs who are just “too big” to go down for any considerable time, in this hypothetical pro/rel MLB.
