Pro Vercelli: The Battle of Milan

Posted By Brian Phillips On July 1, 2009 @ 2:00 pm In Pro Vercelli | 10 Comments

By mid-May, we’d played Milan three times in four weeks—twice in the Coppa Italia semis and once in Serie A—and were set to play them twice more in an epic Champions League semifinal. The first leg was slated for Naming Rights Park, and then we’d head to the San Siro with a place in the final on the line…

Also: We won the Coppa Italia, 1-0 over Roma at the Olimpico. Kozlov scored the goal. No one seemed to get too worked up about this—the board explicitly told me before the season started that they “didn’t consider the TIM Cup to be an important competition”—but I’m happy, because it’s the first time I’ve won the cup and because it means we’re still on for the elusive Quadruple. We only have to win one of our final three league games (which are against the 20th, 16th, and 18th-ranked teams in Serie A) to take the scudetto. Man Utd in the Champions League final will be another story, obviously. Updates soon…
