Bart: Wow, my father an astronaut. I feel so full of…what’s the opposite of shame?
Marge: Pride?
Bart: No, not that far from shame.
Homer [quavering]: Less shame?
Bart [happy]: Yeah…

Actually, screw it. It’s pride!
Yes Charlie Davies’ first touch defies gravity with its ability to propel simple passes up into the sky, but that’s an American first touch!
It’s a game again; the US don’t look that fragile though.
Brian: you’re favoriate neck-gaiter-wearing fullback is back on.
I weep, but dammit world, take notice!
I see what you meant about Alves.
I hate this loser-speech about how it was a good result regardless…
Being up 2-0 at half and losing, regardless of the quality of the side, is lousy.
Side note: the US subs were absolutely terrible. I don’t think they completed a pass.
I kept yelling, “relax!” in the 2nd half until I realized how absurd it sounds to yell that word at the television.
Strange the MGMT song featured in FIFA 09 is playing in the background at the stadium.
when Brazil is bringing on Dani Alves and Elano and we’re reduced to bringing on slightly above average MLS players, the writing is on the wall. That said, while I agree blowing the lead isn’t a good look, Brazil is an offensive juggernaut, and there is a lot to be taken away from this tournament as a whole for the U.S.
At least the US can take comfort in the knowledge that they have a goalkeeper almost as good as Shay Given.
How on earth was Kaka the best player in this tournament? Did those awards make any sense?
It reminded me a bit of Man Utd- Villa or Utd- Spurs from the prem- despite a good opening for the underdog, the end result inevitable. The announcers mentioned penalties when the score was 2-2 but it was very hard to see the game going that far.
Still, the first half was very impressive for the US (also the Spain game), as was Tim Howard, and all of the goals. And its been pointed out that the team that wins the Confederations Cup has yet to win the WC the following year…
I think we all know what must happen: we must tar and feather Bob Bradley and bring back King Bruce Arena! All hail Lord Arena……
Like I said on another board, never talk about the n o hitter when it is two outs in the bottom of the ninth. Remember this, should the US ever make it to another final …
Wait, are you blaming me?
Baseball superstition does not apply to soccer.
Kaka was good but the Golden Ball? That’s crazy.
Ryan – At least the team learned that protecting a lead will sometimes require more than vigorous defending and Tim Howard’s excellence.
“But it’s Brazil.” Given what I’ve heard and read these past few days, I thought that the victory over Spain meant the end of that sort of thinking.
How we tie ourselves in knots.
The Sports Jinx is a universal princpal …
Yeah, my comment was a bit hasty. We should hire Juergen Klinnsman to replace Bradley, not Arena. Or perhaps Sven Goran Eriksson?
maybe tony adams will elect himself for the job
Has anyone ever considered Tab Ramos for the job?
If only our inanimate carbon rod wasn’t sitting out the game because of a previous red.
I think I would rather have the guy who sleeps by the canal on sheet of cardboard manage the national team than Svennis …
Or Tabitha …
While we’re on the Simpsons – doesn’t “Boooooth” have a ‘Booo-urns’ feel to it? I mean, why just celebrate him over the rest of the squad? Does Booth translate as something hilarious in Afrikaans?
