The Run of Play is a blog about the wonder and terror of soccer.
We left the window open during a match in October 2007 and a strange wind blew into the room.
Now we walk the forgotten byways of football with a lonely tread, searching for the beautiful, the bewildering, the haunting, and the absurd.

its cool, i just witnessed ESPN refer to Bocanegra as a “defenseman”. cause he plays for the Red Wings and all.
No time for fact or spell checking – I am too busy copiously writing down notes and paying attention to the amazingly brilliant Alexi Lalas
I was tonight’s US vs. Hungary…er…Honduras game. Si se Puskas! Great fan support for both teams and it looked awesome with the red, white, and blue shirts in the stands even if the blue shirts were for Honduras.
joejoejoe, is that the pun I think it is? If so, you’re a horrible person.
It’s like the purloined pun. It’s hiding in plain sight.
PS – I was actually at the game and it was a fine crowd. No pun there.
