Via Eleven Devils: I don’t usually write about clubs that don’t exist yet, but MLS’s newest franchise has unveiled an absolutely bad-ass new crest. It looks like renegade money. It looks like a Federal Reserve seal that decided to fight back. Think twice before you tread on this thing. I love it.

The team have also made a bold choice of stadium location; they are building in an economically depressed area south of the city. The idea is to make a stadium and shopping area to bring jobs and cash.
There are rumors than Laporta has already visited after the Miami proposal fell off. The dream of Carles Puyol battling on the Chester waterfront with a snake on his chest is about as good as it gets for me.
I was half asleep when i saw the report on the news about the new team ,was i seeing things or did the stadium design resemble a mini version of Old Trafford??
Colin’s correct in emphasizing where they’re building this stadium. Chester was economically depressed during boom times; as it stands now, it likely qualifies as utterly blighted. There has been development there in recent years, but such a development is only a part of what’s needed there. Chester’s one of the poorest cities in the nation, and an MLS team is a start, especially if it’s successful.
Given how hard the ownership group clamored for an MLS team in Philly, it shouldn’t exactly surprise me that the design of the logo and team colors would actually have historical significance to the area they represent, but nevertheless I am impressed. I hope they pummel the rest of the league like a Philly iron worker on strike pummeling the deserving sod who crossed his picket line.
Union Philadelphia would be better, but I have to admit I am tempted to repudiate a decade of MLS-hating, and a lifetime of Philly sports team hating and support this club.
The name not sucking, the logo and color scheme being cool, and the grass roots fervor really combine to make an impressive case.
