Its interesting see Italian players start to cross the channel and play in England – do they get the same xenophobic “stick” as players from Africa and Latin America? Or should the quotas not apply to former territories of the roman empire?

We really were missing Mascherano in this fixture. He’s usually there to break up the opponents attacks to make sure there’s at least some defence. Pity he picked up Alonso’s freekick.

Drogba still reminds me of a tank made of sugar paper. He’s big and all but if there’s a slight gust of wind he falls over.

That was atrocious. Seemed like every touch in the 2nd half was off. And the defense all game was a f’ing sieve.

re: Alonso. No, he was just way off tonight. Part of Liverpool’s resurgence of late has been due to Alonso’s ability to get the ball up field and finding Torres, Gerrard, and whoever is playing outside.

ManU still need to drop points in two matches in order for Liverpool to win the league. Really disappointing performance today.

Of course they could come out and dominate 3-0 at Stamford Bridge and we’ll all forget this match, but I just don’t see that happening.

Thoughts re: this match-

-Are Liverpool saving themselves to keep up the run on Man U?
-Did the new contracts reduce some necessary sense of urgency to their play?
-And, the one thing that has really been bothering me. I don’t get to watch Liverpool all that much. Is Xabi Alonso always so ambitious with his passing? I know he can make brilliant long passes, but it looked like every one of those was forced and detrimental to the team.

This has just been painful to watch.
