The Run of Play is a blog about
the wonder and terror of soccer.

We left the window open during a match in October 2007 and a strange wind blew into the room.

Now we walk the forgotten byways of football with a lonely tread, searching for the beautiful, the bewildering, the haunting, and the absurd.

Masal Bugduv Hoaxer Identity Update!

If that phrase makes no sense to you, then I bid you welcome to The Run of Play and encourage you to look behind Door #1 and Door #2 for confusion-calming details. (Note: Also tigers, potentially.) For the rest of you, I’m happy to report that Fredorrarci has successfully confirmed that the self-alleged hoaxer we’ve been in touch with is telling the truth. He’s telling the truth about lying, of course. But there it is.

Anyway, he’s logged on to the BBC 606 boards under the “GalwayGooner” username and left a prearranged message, thus establishing that he’s in control of the online user account in which Massi, like Venus in the shell, came to land.

Read Fredorrarci’s account here, and enjoy the hoaxer’s narrative without the slightest hint of doubt.

UPDATE: Fredorrarci will be appearing on the CBC radio show As It Happens tonight to discuss the Bugduv hoax. The show’s at 6:30 pm Eastern. You can listen online—details here. I’ll be tuning in, and I hope you will, too.
