Soccerlens has it, apparently, since they decided that the week in which a man who tried to expose one part of the corruption surrounding this tournament was gunned down in his home was also the perfect week to publish a warmed-over FIFA press release about the joys of South African soccer tourism. The best claim? “The South African government has pledged that the 2010 tournament will be a safe tournament.” Really? Because for some people it’s already been kind of dangerous.

It’s been a bad week for South Africa 2010.
Satyam’s implosion following a massive accounting fraud means that they are short of major sponsor as well.
I wonder if they got the sponsorship money up front.
Perhaps a boycott is in order? It worked quite well during apartheid, although that was a slightly more overt and less deniable transgression.
