[...] So I stayed in for the next game. And the next. And in the final game, when Mario Chalmers hit the game-tying three point shot, into the apartment stumbled my roommate and his girlfriend. After shouts of panic, screaming, and some wrestling, I begrudgingly allowed them to watch extra-time with me. It was not regulation, so the presence of others would not break the jinx. And it didn´t. And my roommate still has a picture of me on my knees, eating the bill of a KU basketball hat as if it were a filet mignon sauteed to perfection by Siobhan Phillips.
[...] Well, give us an asterisk and refuse me a martini. We still got our promotion feast. [...]

He's a very lucky man, Brian.

I always thought he was, but I now have tangible evidence.

In our four years here (Milan), I've never seen "artisanal" cotechino. It's always the semi-industrial version (think a good "canned ham" in North American terms), though I'm sure that there are some butchers who make their own in hardcore centres of salumi culture like Cremona.

And here I thought that the Schlesinger cookbook collection was a bit of a secret. I was always the only undergrad (and almost always the only male) in there.

As to mascots, there is only one "sleeping giant" football club in the running here.

Sedan brought this guy (http://www.om4ever.com/CoupeFrance/1950/56SedanLyon.jpg) to the final of the Coupe de France in 1956, having adopted him as a mascot when he was a baby boar rooting in the vicinity of their ground (rooting for Sedan, of course). They are still known as "les Sangliers", and feature a boar on their badge.

Buon Anno Nuovo a tutti.

BTW, Vercelli is under about a foot of snow at the moment (and it's still coming down).

Siobhan, this sounds delicious. When you're here we'll go to the local macelleria and demand answers. A fact-finding mission to Carrefour might also be helpful. So, let me use this as one more opportunity to tempt you out to Italy. Come! Oh, and if Chris now expects some sort of victory dinner after his Mario Kart escapades, I'm calling you.
