I always thought he was, but I now have tangible evidence. In our four years here (Milan), I've never seen "artisanal" cotechino. It's always the semi-industrial version (think a good "canned ham" in North American terms), though I'm sure that there are some butchers who make their own in hardcore centres of salumi culture like Cremona. And here I thought that the Schlesinger cookbook collection was a bit of a secret. I was always the only undergrad (and almost always the only male) in there. As to mascots, there is only one "sleeping giant" football club in the running here. Sedan brought this guy (http://www.om4ever.com/CoupeFrance/1950/56SedanLyon.jpg) to the final of the Coupe de France in 1956, having adopted him as a mascot when he was a baby boar rooting in the vicinity of their ground (rooting for Sedan, of course). They are still known as "les Sangliers", and feature a boar on their badge. Buon Anno Nuovo a tutti. BTW, Vercelli is under about a foot of snow at the moment (and it's still coming down).
