It's great that as soon as they've finally achieved their goal of being exciting on the pitch, they've become so much less so off it.

Your last line is perfect, "They've begun to imitate the rest of football at precisely the moment when the rest of football has begun to imitate them."

But after this convergence, it certainly makes me wonder "what next?"

The pantomonic idea of Chelsea may be ever so slightly wilting in the face of their new attacking flair and Scolari's humble approach, but worry not, the implacable naiveté of the vast majority of followers of football in this country will live on to boo and baa and generally patter on with the same old tired cliched winges. It's just the done thing.

Chelsea is dead, long live Chelsea. yadda yadda yadda, you're right, now they're just petulant and boring, whereas before they were petulant and easily ignitable.

Great article though, reading so many words about Chelsea made me happier than it really should have.

And of course the reference to the Lerners is gone while my comment remains, leaving me to question whether I truly saw it in the first place, or I am simply imagining things. All of this, naturally, raises the specter of the eternal debate between my wife and her Punjabi-Texan Sikh father as to whether, as he claims, he has always supported Man U or whether he instead is a glory hunter who abandoned Aston Villa some years ago for the more consistent winner.
