The Run of Play is a blog about
the wonder and terror of soccer.

We left the window open during a match in October 2007 and a strange wind blew into the room.

Now we walk the forgotten byways of football with a lonely tread, searching for the beautiful, the bewildering, the haunting, and the absurd.

Carling Cup: Burnely Beat Chelsea in Penalties

Tottenham’s 4-2 win over Liverpool was impressive, and more on it later. But here’s the Carling Cup fact of the day: Burnley have just beaten Chelsea 5-4 in penalties after holding them level through 120 minutes. UPDATE: Drogba threw a coin at Burnley fans?

SECOND UPDATE: Everbody‘s throwing coins!

Highlights here.
