In any case, Mourinho is now saying that Lampard won't be coming to Inter till next year. Could just be tactics (why did Chelsea buy Deco if they're so set on keeping Lampard?) but I think it moves this story back into the realm of gossip. Fooled by the French. I hate it when this happens!

I enjoyed this quote from today's Telegraph piece on Lampard and Inter. This is a restaurant manager in Taormina reporting his conversation with Lamps about his Italian vacation:

"He said he was on a boat with his children, wife and babysitter and he was cruising around the coast but he couldn't stop as he was being followed by photographers."

Well informed Italian sources (other than the soprascritto) are saying that the deal isn't quite done, as Chelsea are still trying to shake a few more euros out of the Nerazzurri.

Chelsea are denying that they've even received an offer for Lampard. Simultaneously, UK media sources are reporting that Italian media sources are reporting that he's "touched down in Positano" to sign the contract. Simultaneously, the Gazzetta only seems to say that a deal is close, while Il Giorno doesn't seem to mention it at all, at least on their website.

Since when did Positano have an airport? Is he traveling by hot air balloon?

I honestly can't figure out what to make of this piece of news. It has all the hallmarks of pointless gossip, but then France Football isn't as insubstantial a source as it's being called on some Chelsea message boards right now. But then, why would it be true when it seems to make no sense?

We'll see what happens. I know I've promised not to report transfer gossip, but this one was too odd (in substance, in provenance, in possible motivation) not to pass along.
