In Germany the signal was gone for six minutes before it came back. In minute 76 the signal broke a second time. After a short time, the german TV was able to show the video signal of Switzerland, but commentator Bela Rethy had to talk over ISDN phone! This had the effect that the audio signal and the video signal were out of sync - the audio came before the video - and Rethy shouted out Klose's goal before we saw it!

The broadcasts by the BBC and RTE (Irish TV) were similar to how A. describes the Australian feed. Don't know about Europe, though...

Good to hear, A. Here (and I think in Europe?) the feed came back immediately after Semih's goal, and then cut out again almost immediately after Lahm's.

Just to bring up a more mundane events after your beautifully felt and worded prose Brian,
looks like the ESPN feed problems were greater than what we experienced in Australia. We got the pictures back as Turkey kicked off after Klose's goal. Thankfully we didn't get anymore hiccups and saw the unbelievable finish to the game in full.
