PLEASE tell me that you have access to a university library with a more than decent British local history collection . . .

On a marginally interesting tangent, the Queens, New York namesake of St. Albans was home to a major naval hospital built during WWII, which included extensive psychiatric wards (something I know only because my mother was on the staff).

The non-institutional part of St Albans was also home to a genuinely outstanding set of sports and jazz figures, including Babe Ruth, Joe Louis, Jackie Robinson, Roy Campanella, John Coltrane, Ella Fitzgerald, Lester Young and Count Basie.
