In what I can only assume was a perfect storm of reader enthusiasm, rampant cheating, and the fact that I put a huge banner about it at the top of the site, The Run of Play has won both Soccerlens Blog Awards it was nominated for, Best EPL Blog and Best Blog You’ve Never Heard Of. We also picked up the Editor’s Choice Award for Best EPL Blog, which we share with the excellent Sniffing the Touchline.
I want to thank everyone who took the time to vote in the two Reader’s Choice categories. It’s the way you have of not thinking this site is terrible that inspires me almost every day not to forget that I started it. I’d also like to thank Ahmed and all the good people at Soccerlens: were it not for the way you created the awards and then nominated The Run of Play for them, I am genuinely not sure that we would have fared so well.
To my friends and favorite bloggers who were nominees and winners (Tom, Ian, Laurie, Chris, Tim, Chris O, Josh, etc.), congratulations. To my friends and favorite bloggers who were unaccountably left out (SpanglyPrincess, Roswitha), remember that the revolution will not be reckoned in trophies. The revolution will be reckoned in fine statements, muskets, and souls.
Thanks again.

Right behind you in the hopefully not much longer march to truth, freedom and Milan winning everything in sight undeservedly and gleefully. Congratulations! Laurels are no less than you deserve.
Very much deserved, Brian, good to see. At this rate you’ll have no shot at “Best Blog You’ve Never Heard Of” for 2008.
Congratulations, Brian, richly deserved. Roswitha & I shall plot some kind of violent countercoup of the next few weeks.
Congratulations, Brian – that’s quite an achievement to be proud of!
… I meant ‘no more,’ didn’t I.
I assumed that the inclusion of the bit about Milan meant that the whole comment was to be read in the alternative . . .
Anyway, what they said. Even though I didn’t vote for you for the “EPL” honour, as I thought that much too parochial a description of your oeuvre.
Congratulations, dude. (Though I was with ursus making O_o face at you being in the EPL category.)
Congratulations from here too, Brian – thoroughly deserved!
Congratulations Brian!
Yep, congratulations Brian. I look forward to your difficult second album 🙂
…thoroughly deserved. That piece about the Bulgarian lad who looked as if he’d just been told to go and fetch his aunties suitcases from the taxi desrved it alone.
Drink it in. The only way is down.
Thanks, all. Really nice to find your comments.
I took the EPL categorization as a knowing wink toward the fact that there was no “best blog cobbled together from watercolor portraits of giant squid, Sleepy John Estes songs, and the letters of Beatrix Potter” category. Although maybe there should have been.
The plan now is to hire a bassist who cuts himself on stage, swiftly disband, then re-form twenty years later once people have stopped thinking the New York Dolls were important.
“best blog cobbled together from watercolor portraits of giant squid, Sleepy John Estes songs, and the letters of Beatrix Potter” category
Yes, please.
“Blog Whose Readers Are Most Likely to Compare Joe Cole to the Native American Trickster Figure Wakdjunkaga in Comments”
Congratulations. Great blog, and good to see it recognized. They really should consider broadening the categories to include more of the behind-the-scenes technical ones, like the Oscars. You’d be front runner for Best Art Direction and, as you mentioned, Best Use of Squid.
I find it a tragic feature of modern life that the use of squid is so culturally undervalued.
