The Run of Play is a blog about
the wonder and terror of soccer.

We left the window open during a match in October 2007 and a strange wind blew into the room.

Now we walk the forgotten byways of football with a lonely tread, searching for the beautiful, the bewildering, the haunting, and the absurd.

Sucking Down the Wake of Revolution

I’m a bit late posting about this, because I couldn’t decide whether to take a modest tone (hey, lot of great blogs out there) or let myself go a little (the hammer of vengeance shall fall upon those who dismay us), but The Run of Play has been nominated for two Soccerlens Blog Awards. I would look at it as a personal favor if you voted for us, preferably eight or nine times a day, in the categories of “Best EPL Blog” and “Best Blog You’ve Never Heard Of.” I would remember it when you were stung by a poisonous insect, or if you had to fight the Battle of Helm’s Deep.

“Best EPL Blog” sounds like the more prestigious award, but honestly, “Best Blog You’ve Never Heard Of” is the one I want to win. Everything this site stands for is represented in the idea of an award that no one can logically vote for. Everything we believe in is bound up in the concept of an election in which the voters are disqualified by the act of reading the ballot.
